FAQs ABOUT STAYING AT UNILINK VILLAGE

Who will be in the unit with me?

From the information you supply with your student tenant application, we try and place you with people we think are compatible. We look at your interests, age, course being studied, and consider any other issues you may have raised.

Can I have someone to stay?

Under your agreement you will be allowed one person to stay for one night only in one week. No one is to sleep in the common area of the lounge – there are air mattresses available through management. All guests need to be registered with management prior to their stay.

Can I have a pet?

No.

What if my course finishes before the tenancy agreement ends and I want to leave ?

Your contract is a legal document and you are responsible for your rent payments to the end of your contract. If you leave early you still need to pay rent to the end of your contract or find someone to take your room and pay the rent. This person must be a student approved by the management and be compatible with the other occupants. A penalty payment of 1 week's rent + GST is charged in accordance with Queensland Residential Tenancy regulations.

What about internet?

There is a wireless internet facility available to all tenants. Connection is free and usage up to 10 GB download per month is included in the rent. Additional download can be purchased ($10 / 10 GB).

Can I bring my own bed?

No.

How long does confirmation take?

Applications will be processed within 5 days of receipt by us. Subject to availability, your first preference will be offered.

How long is the term?

Each year the term of the agreements will vary however, they are normally from mid February - early December. Shorter terms are availale, but a surcharge may apply.

Can you pick me up from the Airport?

When you arrive in Brisbane from overseas, you can arrange to be met at the airport and transported to your accommodation at Unilink Village via the University Accommodation services - www.accommodation.uq.edu.au .

How do I pay my rent?

Rent is paid via direct debit from your nominated bank account.

Can I leave whenever I want?

Once you have executed your student tenancy agreement, you are bound by the conditions of that Agreement.

What happens if I want to extend my stay?

You can extend your tenancy through the summer period. All students wishing to apply for the following year will need to lodge their application prior to the end of November to ensure they receive their first preference.

How do I receive my mail?

The mail is delivered to individual letter boxes, located outside the office building. It is necessary for you to give your House Name, Unit Number, Room Number and our Street Address when providing your mail address to any person or Corporation for example:

What do I need to bring?

Is there a Laundry Service?

Each unit / townhouse is fully equipped with a washing machine, clothes dryer and laundry tub, as well as iron and ironing board.

Are Meals provided?

Meals are not provided. Each unit/townhouse has its own fully equipped kitchen. You will be a gourmet chef in no time.

Help... I don't get on with my housemates?

Management will assist in every way possible to ensure your stay is harmonious. This includes assistance to resolve issues within your unit.

When can I get my phone on?

Upon arrival at Unilink Village all you need to do is contact Telstra and provide them with your details to arrange for the to have your phone line connected. If previously connected, your phone will be available within 24 hours.
